8ft Pool Table Dimensions and Room Planning
Playing area is not the overall table size
The playing area is measured between the cushion noses. The overall table includes the rails and cabinet, so its outside footprint is larger. Ask for both measurements for the exact table you select.
The WPA recommended equipment specification lists an 8ft pool playing area of 92 × 46 inches (2,336.8 × 1,168.4 mm). This is an industry reference, not a measurement or certification of every table described on this page. Other 8ft tables can use different playing dimensions.
Plan for the cue, not just the cabinet
For illustration, a 92 × 46-inch playing area plus a 58-inch cue on each side gives 208 × 162 inches, or 17 ft 4 in × 13 ft 6 in, of unobstructed space. This arithmetic covers cue length only; allow more room for the backswing, players, seating and circulation. Use your selected table’s actual playing area and cue length when planning.
For folding designs, measure the storage location and access route separately. For heavier configurations, also plan the route through doors, stairs and lifts before delivery.
